The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Ministry of Culture of Russia, in cooperation with Rosconcert Company, will be holding the Days of Philippine Culture in Russia on September 25 to 30, 2017 in Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Philippine-Russian diplomatic relations. The Days of Philippine Culture in Russia will feature various activities and performances that will showcase the best of Philippine culture and arts.
Renowned ballet group Ballet Manila, led by Artistic Director and prima ballerina Lisa Macuja Elizalde, Philippine Women’s University’s Jose Abad Santos Memorial School Rondalla, and soprano Ms. Bianca Camille Lopez will grace the Gala Performance at the Russkaya Pesnya Moscow State Folklore Theatre on September 27, 2017.
The gala performance will be preceded by the opening of Perfected by Tradition: Philippine Weaves exhibit at the theatre lobby which showcases the intricacy and creativity of Philippine indigenous textiles and how these reflect the heritage and history of the different weaving communities.
In addition to cultural performances, there will also be a community interaction at the Philippine Embassy in Moscow and another cultural performance by the visiting artists at the Kolizey Theatre in St. Petersburg on September 29, 2017.
The implementation of the Days of Philippine Culture in Russia is a reciprocal activity of the Days of Russian Culture in the Philippines held in October 2016 which featured Russian artists L.G. Zykina State Academic Russian Folk Ensemble (ROSSIYA), Nikolay Medvedev (piano), Natalia Dmitrievskaia (soprano), and Dmitry Grigoriev (bass).
The Days of Philippine Culture in Russia is the first activity to be implemented within the ambit of the Executive Protocol (EP) on Cooperation between the NCCA and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation for the years 2017 to 2019 signed during President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s landmark visit to Russia in May 2017.
