More than a hundred young experts, scholars, workers, and advocates of heritage will gather for the first time for the 1st National Youth Forum on Heritage (1NYFH) on 11-14 November 2015 at the Philippine High School for the Arts (PHSA), National Arts Center, Mt. Makiling, Los Baños, Laguna.
Eighty of the said participants are official delegates selected from a total of 238 applications received from various regions and professions, and the rest are heritage observers, representatives of various cultural agencies, and students and members of the faculty of the PHSA.
This meeting will serve as platform for the delegates to discuss strategies in raising the awareness of their respective communities and fellow youth on our cultural heritage, and establish dialogue with the cultural agencies and other concerned institutions.
The commencement activities will be held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) in the morning of 11 November. Representatives of CCP administration are expected to welcome the forum participants before they proceed to Los Baños.
After the activities at CCP, the participants will proceed first to Pepe (young Rizal) Monument at Rizal Shrine Calamba for a flower offering ceremony, and then to Maria Makiling Garden at the PHSA Ballet Studio in Los Baños for paresparehan, the tradition of offering flowers to Maria Makiling (a diwata or guardian spirit of nature for the ancient Tagalogs) by visitors in pairs (hence, pares). The major activities of the 1NYFH such as dialogues, group discussions, and speeches on heritage will be conducted at the said venue.
The 1NYFH is a project of RFM Foundation, The Outstanding Students of the Philippines Region 3 Alumni Community of Heroes, Project Saysay, and Proyekto PH, with the support of National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), PHSA, CCP, National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), and Trans-Asia Oil & Energy Development Corp.
