Sentro Rizal Jakarta is the second SR branch to be inaugurated by NCCA this year.

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is set to open another Sentro Rizal (SR) branch. NCCA Chairman Felipe M. De Leon Jr. will lead the inauguration of SR Jakarta along with RP Ambassador to Indonesia Maria Lumen B. Isleta. The inauguration will be held on November 22, 2015 at the Chancery of the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Indonesia, located at Jl. Imam Bonjol No. 8, Menteng, Daerah Khusus Ibukota, Jakarta.

After the inauguration, De Leon will deliver a lecture to attending overseas Filipinos on “What makes Filipinos Filipino?” followed by another lecture about “Nusantara: The Shared Heritage of Archipelagic Southeast Asia” to students of the University of Indonesia on November 23, 2015, 3 PM.

Sentro Rizal (SR) is a program under the NCCA established by virtue of Section 42 of the Republic Act 10066 or Heritage Law. It is a cultural center dedicated to promoting Philippine culture and language throughout the world, in countries where there are children of overseas Filipino workers who need to be educated about their roots and in countries where there are a large number of Filipino communities.

SR Jakarta is the second SR branch to be inaugurated by NCCA this year, next to the SR in Phnom Penh which was inaugurated on June 19, 2015.

SR caters to overseas Filipinos who wish to reconnect with their Filipino roots through language and cultural education. It also serves as the repository of materials and resources in multimedia format on Philippine culture and arts. Various SR branches throughout the world provide resources, both print and digital, to groups or individuals who are interested about Filipino culture. Aside from providing basic library information services, SR branches also offer language courses and lessons and conduct cultural programs and events.

Aside from the inauguration and lecture series, RP Embassy to Indonesia and NCCA will host a piano concert dubbed “Philippine Musical Journey” featuring CCP President and renowned pianist Raul Sunico. The concert will be held on November 24, 2015, 6:30 PM at the Umar Ismail Hall, Jl. HR Rasuna Said, Kuningan, Jakarta.
