The NCCA Ready to Wear (RTW) Clothing Design Competition aims to promote and popularize the different textiles from various cultural communities of the Philippines
The NCCA Ready to Wear (RTW) Clothing Design Competition is created to encourage professional and emerging fashion designers to create contemporary and practical designs for RTW clothes which can be for everyday use and for ordinary functions such as work, school, shopping and leisure activities utilizing the Philippine indigenous textiles. It hopes to nurture creativity and natural aptitude for fashion design while providing opportunities of exposure for the designers and their work, especially the young and emerging ones.
Furthermore, the competition aims to promote and popularize the different textiles from various cultural communities of the Philippines.
I. General Guidelines:
- The competition is open to all interested students, designers from the different fashion/ clothing lines, and professional designers.
- Competitors should be Filipino citizens.
- The ethnicity of the design should not be token, e.g. just traditional motifs on the collar, pockets of cuffs, but should cover at least one-third of the total clothing.
- While the contemporary, innovative and practical designs are encouraged, the final product (clothes) should clearly bear the ethnic source, i.e. Gaddang, Ilokano, Kapampangan, Subanen, Tboli, Yakan
- The sources of traditional woven materials could be any of the Philippine indigenous or traditional ethnic groups in the country, including peoples in the highlands, Muslim communities and lowland Christian communities.
- The clothes must be eminently wearable, practical, comfortable, non-toxic and inexpensive, yet artistic and elegant which will be for use in office, school and other daily activities.
II. Competition Categories
The NCCA Ready to Wear (RTW) Clothing Design Competition shall have three (3) categories to provide broader participation from the fashion design sector.
A. Student Category
- The category is open to all interested students of any course in a college or university. The student should be currently enrolled in a baccalaureate, vocational or technical course.
- Under this category, the entries shall be design for clothes which can be used as school uniform for students or teachers and for other school activities.
- Five (5) winners will be declared for this category and shall be awarded trophies and cash Prizes (subject to applicable taxes) as follows:
- First Prize – P40,000
- Second Prize – P35,000
- Third Prize – P30,000
- Fourth Prize – P25,000
- Fifth Prize – P20,000
B. Professional Category
- This category is open to all Filipino professional fashion designers.
- Under this category, the entries shall be design for clothes which may be used in offices or for events requiring Smart Casual Wear.
- Five (5) Winners will be declared for this category and shall be awarded trophies and cash Prizes (subject to applicable taxes) as follows:
- First Prize – P70,000
- Second Prize – P65,000
- Third Prize – P60,000
- Fourth Prize – P40,000
- Fifth Prize – P40,000
C. Fashion / Clothing Line Companies
- This category is open to all fashion/ clothing line companies.
- Under this category, the entries shall be design for clothes for casual or daily activities to include but not limited to dress, blouses, shirts, skirts, shorts, and pants.
- The clothes shall be included in the product line of the company.
- Five (5) Winners will be declared for this category and shall be awarded trophies and cash Prizes (subject to applicable taxes) as follows:
- First Prize – P60,000
- Second Prize – P55,000
- Third Prize – P50,000
- Fourth Prize – P45,000
- Fifth Prize – P40,000
III. Criteria for the selection of winners:
The NCCA shall tap highly qualified adjudicators to select the winners from the submitted entries according to the following criteria:

IV. Mechanics of the Competition
- The contestant must fill up and submit an application form available at the NCCA website: ncca.gov.ph together with the entry.
- The contestant may submit a maximum of two (2) entries of originally designed “Ready to Wear Clothing’ in accordance with the guidelines and competition categories. Sketch of the design is optional.
- Entries must be submitted on or before April 10, 2016 at 5PM to:

- The entry should be the contestant’s original design and concept, but he/she may opt to have it sewn by a seamstress. He/ she is not allowed to purchase existing clothes or make alterations for submission.
- An exhibit of all the entries will be mounted at the NCCA lobby for judging on April 15, 2016
- A ceremony will be held on April 16, 2016 for the formal recognition and awarding of the winners and distribution of trophies and cash prizes. Certificates of Appreciation will be given to contestants of non-winning entries.
- Non-winning entries will be returned to the designers after the awarding.
- Employees of the NCCA will not be qualified for the competition.
- Upon proper coordination with the winner/s, the NCCA may opt to use and/or offer his/her designs for some other purposes, including, but not limited to NCCA uniform, public school uniform, or other government agencies uniform.
- By joining this contest, the contestant agrees that his or her final output (clothes) shall form part of the NCCA’s property. However, the intellectual property rights of the design shall remain with the designer in accordance with R.A. 8293 or otherwise known as Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.
- Winning designs shall be published/ featured in the NCCA official newsletter, Agung, NCCA website, and NCCA social media accounts.
- The decision of the judges is final and not appealable.
