The NCCA is now accepting applications for memberships to its 19 national committees for the term 2017 to 2019.
The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), led by its chairman Felipe M. de Leon Jr. and OIC-executive director Marichu G. Tellano, is now accepting applications for memberships to its 19 national committees for the term 2017 to 2019.
The NCCA is a unique government institution because of its close partnership with civil society, recognizing their significant contributions and encouraging their continued involvement in the development, conservation and promotion of Philippine culture and the arts. They make up the four subcommissions—Subcommission on the Arts (SCA), Subcommission on Cultural Heritage (SCH), Subcommission on Cultural Dissemination (SCD) and Subcommission on Cultural Communities and Traditional Arts (SCCTA)—with 19 national committees, representing the 19 sectors of arts and culture and involving almost 200 executive council members nationwide. This is the mechanism that provides for the participation of civil society in the formulation and implementation of programs and projects for culture and development.
The SCA is made up of seven national committees—Architecture and Allied Arts, Cinema, Dance, Dramatic Arts, Literary Arts, Music and Visual Arts—while the SCH has six national committees—Archives, Art Galleries, Historical Research, Libraries and Information Services, Monuments and Sites, and Museums. The SCCTA is made up of three national committees—Central Cultural Communities, Northern Cultural Communities and Southern Cultural Communities—while the SCD has three national committees—Language and Translation, Communication and Cultural Education.
The NCCA desires that the committees will be composed of members to represent different sectors as well as geographic locations as much as possible.
Generally, Filipino citizens who are of good standing and are recognized and active practitioners in his or her own field/art are eligible for membership. They must also be willing to devote sufficient time and effort to do volunteer work for the NCCA and the different sectors.
The deadline of submission of applications is on October 21, 2016 (However, applications for memberships to the SCD, deadline is October 11). Elections of officers of committees and subcommissions will be from October to December.
