“ As the centerpiece event of the NVM, the annual SOV pays tribute to the unsung heroes and heroines who serve as a driving force, along with different public and private organizations, to the empowerment process of local communities. PNVSCA invites the public to nominate individuals and groups who have made an impact on the lives of the marginalized through volunteerism.” Nominations will be accepted until 15 July 2017.

Celebrated every December, the NVM serves as the country’s platform to recognize the contributions of the volunteer community to nation-building and sustainable development. This year’s NVM theme, “Boluntarismo, Daan Tungo sa Pagbabago”, is anchored on the goals of the Philippine Development Plan 2017-2022 and the Sustainable Development Goals. The theme calls on every Filipino to become a change catalyst, even in their own simple ways, through organizing and participating in volunteer activities aligned with the local and international development priorities.

PNVSCA Executive Director Joselito C. De Vera encourages the public to engage in year-round volunteering activities and projects even before the NVM celebration in December, “ PNVSCA promotes volunteerism not only as a tool for socio-economic development but also as a way of life. Citizen participation and public-private partnership will play a significant role in fostering an enabling environment for volunteerism,” he said.

The declaration of December as NVM was signed on 5 December 1998 through Presidential Proclamation No. 55.
