The Haligi ng Dangal honors works of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Interior Design, and Urban and Environmental Planning.
The National Commission for Culture and the Arts, the overall policy making body, coordinating, and grants giving agency for the preservation, development, and promotion of Philippine arts and culture, through the National Committee on Architecture and the Allied Arts, is proud to present the Haligi ng Dangal Awards, an annual award conferred upon completed/executed works in Architecture and its Allied Professions, namely: Landscape Architecture, Interior Design, and Urban and Environmental Planning designed by, and located within the Philippines.
The citation jointly commemorates the exemplary structure or site, and its licensed designer(s). It acknowledges exemplary works and encourages the sustenance of the Filipino spirit, the development and improvement of the Filipino built environment and enhancement of the awareness of the role of design and designers, particularly that of architecture and its allied professions, in the social, economic and environmental development of the Philippines. Ultimately, it aims to demonstrate that good design is a major component of the positive influence on the human environment and that the physical development of the built environment in the Philippines can be integrated with the cultural values, national identity, or the natural environment of our nation.
The Haligi ng Dangal honors works of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Interior Design, and Urban and Environmental Planning, with the winners of the four major categories receiving a medal, plaque, and a cash prize. Only licensed Filipino professionals were eligible to be nominated. Launched with an open call for nominations from the public last September 2016, the Haligi ng Dangal has had over sixty nominations from all over the archipelago.
A special, separate citation for the People’s Choice allowed for public participation in the nomination and decision process by way of online voting, with nominees garnering the highest number of votes being recognized as popular everyday built spaces which resonate with the Filipino.
After careful deliberations by an esteemed panel of experts from Architecture and its allied professions during the judging session held on June the 2nd, 2017, four structures and sites have been deemed worthy to be called Haligi ng Dangal awardees, with two (2) honorees for the field of Architecture, one (1) honoree for the field of Landscape Architecture, and one (1) honoree for the field of Interior Design.
The panel of Jurors for the 2017 Haligi ng Dangal Awards included Arch. Jose Danilo Silvestre, Arch. Rogelio Caringal, IDr. Rachelle Medina, LArch. Susan Aquino-Ong, Arch. Maria Cristina Turalba, and Dr. Patrick D. Flores.
The Awards will be formally conferred onto the honorees- both the professionals and their respective built structures, on June the 17th, 2017 at the Ayuntamiento, Intramuros, Manila. Plaques recognizing the contributions of these structures and sites to the advancement of Filipino design will be installed at a later date.
