The Philippine National Historical Society (PNHS) invites everyone to the 38th National Conference on Local and National History of the Philippine National Historical Society (PNHS) to be held on October 19-21,2017, at the Audio Visual Room, Lyceum of AparrI, Cagayan.
The conference is co-sponsored by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts – Committee on Historical Research (NCCA-CHR) and the Philippine Social Science Council (PSSC).
The Philippine National Historical Society (PNHS) is the oldest professional organization of historians and practitioners of history in the Philippine, established on February 2, 1941, with the mission to “encourage and undertake the study of Philippine history.” PNHS conferences and publications have presented research on national history and local/regional histories that enrich the understanding of the cultural diversity of Philippine society. This year’s conference focuses on Northern Luzon history, with presentations to also include studies in related social science disciplines and the humanities. Selected papers presented at PNHS Conferences are reviewed for publication in the Journal of History, first published in July 1941.
In PNHS conferences, papers on local history (regional/provincial) and national history are presented, covering studies of provinces/islands and cultural communities, looking at periods from prehistory throughout the colonial period, and especially during the 17th and 18th century. Local history in the context of national history has always been the guiding theme in PNHS Conferences since we started this conference series on local/national history in 1978.The PNHS is probably the foremost proponent of local history studies in the Philippines.
The conference sharing fee is P3,500.00. Participants will be provided with a conference kit to include the Book of Abstracts and Program, CD of conference papers, complimentary PNHS publication, and lunch and two meriendas for the two days of the conference (October 19-20). Breakfasts and dinners, travel and accommodations, and the Lakbay-Aral (optional on October 21) are the responsibility of the participants. The registration fee for enrolled undergraduate students (with valid school ID) is P1,500.00, inclusive of all the handouts given to regular participants.
