The LIS Month is celebrated this year in recognition of the need to focus on public awareness on the various services rendered by information service centers and information custodians and librarians across the country.

Cultural agencies, local government units, schools, and other organizations are encouraged to partake in this year’s celebration which bears the theme “Ang Kulturang May Malasakit, sa Aklatan ay Makakamit.” This is aligned with the Malasakit pillar of the Philippine Development Plan 2022 which deals with enhancing the social fabric of the nation. Component activities include outreach services and research on best practices among libraries, demonstrations and conferences, fora, and exhibits in public and private libraries. There will also be photo contests relating to the theme and the celebration.

For the past year, partnerships among government agencies, particularly the NCCA through its National Committee on Library and Information Services (NCLIS) under the Subcommission on Cultural Heritage headed by Commissioner Fr. Harold Rentoria OSA, the NLP, Philippine Librarians Association Inc., and various organizations, have made the celebration possible.
