The National Commission for Culture and the Arts, the overall policy making body, coordinating, and grants giving agency for the preservation, development and promotion of Philippine arts and culture, through the National Committee on Architecture and the Allied Arts, is proud to present, the Haligi ng Dangal Awards Honorees for 2018.
The Haligi ng Dangal is a biennial award conferred upon completed/executed works in Architecture and its Allied Professions, namely: Landscape Architecture, Interior Design, and Environmental Planning. The citation jointly commemorates the exemplary structure or site, and its licensed designer(s).
It recognizes exemplary works and encourages the nourishing of the Filipino spirit through the improvement of their built environment and enhancing the awareness of the role of design and designers particularly that of architecture and its allied professions, in the social, economic and environmental development of the Philippines. Ultimately, it aims to demonstrate the positive influence of good design on the human environment, and that the physical development of the built environment in the Philippines can be integrated with the cultural values, national identity, and the natural environment of our nation.
The Honorees for this year are as follows:
For the field of Architecture, the Streetlight Tagpuro in Tacloban City, Leyte by Leandro V. Locsin Partners, in collaboration with Eriksson Furunes;
For the field of Interior Design, The Henry Hotel, Manila in Pasay City, Metro Manila, by IDr. Eric T. Paras;
For the field of Landscape Architecture, the Iloilo River Esplanade in Mandurriao, Iloilo City by PGAA Creative Design;
And for the People’s Choice Award, the Valenzuela People’s Park in Valenzuela City, Metro Manila by Larch. Renato Heray.
There are no Honorees this year for the Environmental Planning Category, as no nominations were received for this category.
The Panel of Jurors for this year’s awards are the following: Ar. Joel Rico, representing the United Architects of the Philippines; LArch. Jose Antonio Bimbao, President of the Philippine Association of Landscape Architects; IDr. Lilia de Jesus, President of the Philippine Institute of Interior Designers; and Ar. Rogelio Caringal, Head of the National Committee on Architecture and the Allied Arts of the NCCA.
This year as well, the award-giving body also turned over the plaques of recognition to the first Haligi ng Dangal Awards honorees for the year 2017: For the field of Architecture, the Arnaiz Residence by Arch. Dan Lichuaco. For the field of Landscape Architecture, the U.P. Town Center by Larch. Eric Estonido. For the field of Interior Design, the Lumot Lakehouse by IDr. Budji Layug. The award-giving body also gave a plaque of recognition to the Villa Marina by Arch. Manny Miñana, the recipient of the citation from the ASEAN Committee on Culture and Information in 2014, which is a precursor to the Haligi ng Dangal Awards.
Arch. Gerard Lico is the Project Director of Haligi ng Dangal Awards. The awards ceremony was held on November 24, 2018, at the Marble Hall, Ayuntamiento de Manila in Intramuros, Manila.
