CURTAIN CALL: The MET Theater Costume Collection opens on December 10, 2018 at the NCCA Gallery.
The National Commission for Culture and the Arts Rehabilitation and Conservation of the Metropolitan Theater Program is bringing back the ‘grand old dame’ to life. The MET is a national cultural treasure and an architecturally significant structure, the only existing Art Deco building of its scale in Asia. During its glory days, the MET had hosted numerous musical and theatrical productions.
Found during the process of restoring the MET in a room adjacent to the main theatre were numerous costumes. These costumes possibly used in the many productions of the MET were left without proper storage and uncatalogued. The process of retrieval is still ongoing.
Curtain Call is an exhibition of the costumes found at the MET. These costumes have a rich history, but their identities have to resurface. By showing it through this exhibition the Rehabilitation and Conservation of the Metropolitan Theater Program hope to attract collaborators to share their stories and recollections about the costumes. This process will help establish their identities and contribute to the archiving process. Hopefully, it will lead to more costumes that will be retrieved and given identity.
The costume exhibition venue is the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Gallery, 633 General Luna St, Intramuros, Manila. The opening reception is at 11:00 am on December 10, 2018. The show runs from December 10 -31, 2018.
