Manila – The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) recognizes 55 artists in various fields – architecture and the allied arts, broadcast arts, cinema, dance, dramatic arts, literary arts, music, and visual arts – with its annual Ani ng Dangal Awards. The ceremony will be held on February 27, 2019 at the Diamond Hotel Malate Manila.
Top billing this year’s Ani ng Dangal Awardees is NCCA Arts Ambassador himself Ian Veneracion. Veneracion bagged the Best Actor Award for his performance in Dan Villegas’ chilling horror film, Ilawod, at the 38th Osporto International Film Festival held in Lisbon, Portugal.
Ian Veneracion is an established actor in film bust is also a visual artist who has conducted solo exhibits. Apart from acting and painting, Veneracion is also a musician by heart, with several recording albums up his sleeve. Veneracion was named Arts Ambassador this year alongside musician KZ Tandingan and Ms. Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach.
Joining Ian Veneracion in this year’s roster of awardees are fellow actors Ryza Cenon, who won the Yakushi Pearl Award in the 13th Osaka Asian Film Festival, Allen Dizon, Angeli Nicole Sanoy, Christian Apolinario, Christian Bables, and Timothy Castillo. Other awardees for the cinema category are the films Panahon ng Halimaw, Bagahe, Call Her Ganda, Employee of the Month, Last Order, Mabubulok, and Ngiti ng Nazareno. Directors Arjanmar Rebeta and Mikhail Red, and scriptwriter Shereen Seno, will also be receiving awards.

Tellano, and Commissioner for the Arts Teddy Co and SCA Vice Chair Shirley Halili-Cruz, the Ani ng Dangal (meaning, harvest of honors) Awards recognizes artists, cultural workers and works that have earned international awards and accolades during the past year. Ani ng Dangal Awards was launched in 2009 and is given as honor and recognition to artists whose works and achievements have placed the Philippines among the best in the world.
The Ani ng Dangal Awards is one of the highlights of NCCA’s celebration of National Arts Month this February. The government cultural agency has lined up several events and activities throughout the month, happening all over the country.
The NCCA has been leading the celebration of NAM since the signing of Presidential Proclamation 683, in 1991 declaring February as National Arts Month.
