Museums and Galleries Month 2019 theme “Building the Nation, One Exhibit at a time” acknowledges the role of museums and galleries as instruments in creating national consciousness for Filipinos.

The Museums and Galleries Month (MGM) is observed every month of October by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 798, s. 1991. It underscores the importance of arousing national consciousness and pride in our rich Filipino culture and heritage embodying the aspirations of the nation, expressed in all media of art as well as historical and religious artifacts. This rich Filipino cultural heritage embodies the aspiration of the nation. The observance recognizes that these cultural and art forms are necessary for nation-building and shaping the national destiny.

MGM 2019: BUILDING THE NATION, ONE EXHIBIT AT A TIME

MGM 2019 will be carrying the theme “Building the Nation, One Exhibit at a time” which acknowledges the role of museums and galleries as instruments in creating national consciousness for Filipinos.

Museums and galleries, by all means, have expanded its function from being centers of historical and cultural consciousness to avenues for dialogues which best concern the general public, including pressing issues on resilience, peace, and security. These have housed various collections which awakened national unity and commitment to the country which are vital to nation-building.

Objectives

1. To preserve, enrich, and create a dynamic evolution of a Filipino national culture based on the principle of unity in diversity in a climate of free artistic and intellectual expression;
2. To arouse the national consciousness and pride in our rich culture and national identity, expressed in all media of art and culture, historical and religious artifacts.
3. To utilize exhibition spaces/venues as centers of historical and cultural consciousness and avenues for dialogues on resilience, peace, and security;
4. To use exhibitions as expressions of unity and national identity.

CELEBRATE MGM WITH US!

We are encouraging everyone to celebrate MGM with us through the following:

• Hanging of 2019 MGM official streamers in all government agencies, including regional offices, local government units, and Philippine embassies and consulates;
• Development, production, distribution and posting of information, education, and communication materials for 2019 MGM which include collaterals designed by NCCA;
• Participation in the online campaign thread about the celebration by uploading photos, news features and other information relative to MGM 2019 using the hashtag: #MGM2019; #MuseumsAndGalleriesMonth;
• Uploading and sharing of Museums and Galleries Month advocacy materials in government agencies’ website and social media accounts;
• Feature the organization’s Calendar of Activities and MGM advocacy materials in their official websites, social media accounts and publications.
• Announcement of Museums and Galleries Month (MGM) celebration in Flag Raising Ceremony of Government Offices (September 30, 2019);
• Organizing and participating in museum and gallery related activities such as lecture demonstrations, conferences, workshops, and exhibits.
