Continuing the success of ROUND 2020, Korea’s TV network Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) will hold the second year of the virtual music festival, ASEAN-Korea Music Festival’s (AKMF) ROUND 2021, to be held on 09 January 2022 featuring talented musicians from the ASEAN member countries and Korea. It aims to connect ASEAN and Korea through the universal language of music and lead to an exchange of cultures and strengthened mutual solidarity.

ROUND 2021 features live onsite performances of Korean musicians/artists from the main platform stage in Seoul, alongside the streaming of the 10 ASEAN performers’ pre-recorded videos. The concert will last for 6 hours of global real-time live festival on YouTube and includes real-time communication from event hosts, selected artists, and audiences around the world.
The Philippines’ bid, SB19 is a five-member Filipino group that debuted in 2018 and composed of Pablo, Josh, Stell, Ken, and Justin. The “SB” in SB19 stands for “Sound Break” which represents their goal to break and elevate the Filipino pop music. This newly minted NCCA Youth and Sentro Rizal Ambassador is the first Filipino and South East Asian act to be nominated in the Billboard Music Awards as Top Social Artist alongside BTS, Blackpink, Ariana Grande, and Seventeen. They are also the most tweeted account in the Philippines in 2020. Recently, they have been nominated as Best South East Asian Act in the 2021 MTV European Music Awards. For this iteration of the AKMF, SB19 was selected by KBS from a roster of nominated Philippine artists.
ROUND 2021 builds on the success of ROUND 2020, held on 6 December 2020 which highlighted well-known ASEAN and Korean artists. ROUND 2020 won the 2021 Digital Content Award at the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union for its innovative use of online communication technologies to engage with the audience.
The AKMF is a project of the ASEAN-ROK dialogue platform with funding support from the ASEAN-Korea Cooperation Fund. The National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Cultural Center of the Philippines are the country’s focal agencies for culture in ASEAN-related mechanisms.
