We are now accepting entries for the 2023 National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Writers’ Prize. The deadline for submission is EXTENDED to July 31, 2023 (Monday) ( June 30, 2023 (Friday).

The NCCA Writers’ Prize is a biennial award given to five writers, one for each category, namely; for poetry, novel, essay/creative non-fiction, short story, and drama.

The award, in the gross amount of TWO HUNDRED FIFTY THOUSAND PESOS (PhP 250,000) will assist the winner during the writing stage of the project. The award is good for one year, after which a polished final manuscript of the writing project will be submitted to the NCCA, particularly its National Committee on Literary Arts (NCLA) for possible publication or staging.

Applicants must submit:

  • an accomplished ENTRY FORM
  • notarized DECLARATION WITH CONSENT AND RELEASE applicant’s curriculum vitae
  • 3-5 page concept paper discussing the rationale and significance of the project in PDF Format
  • 1 copy of the initial output of the project in PDF format (refer to the table)

Novel (Filipino) First 50 pages
Essay/Creative Non-fiction (Bikol) 3 essays with minimum of 2,000 words per essay
Short Story (Pangasinense) 3 stories with minimum of 2,000 words per story
Drama (Cebuano) 1-act for a full-length drama or two (2) 1-act plays

Table 2: The awardees/grantees must complete the project output within 1 year as follows:

Poetry (Ibaloi) At least 30 poems
Novel (Filipino) Minimum of 50,000 words
Essay/Creative Non-fiction (Bikol) At lest 12 essays with minimum of 2,000 words per essay
Short Story (Pangasinense) At least 12 stories with minimum of 2,000 words per story
Drama (Cebuano) Full-length drama (at least 3 acts) or five (5) 1-act plays
