Despite the logistical hurdles brought about by Typhoon Kristine, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) successfully concluded the Museums and Galleries Month at the Metropolitan Theater on October 30, 2024. Originally planned to take place at the Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite, the closing ceremony was relocated due to the typhoon’s impact.

The ceremony was led by NCCA Chair Victorino Mapa Manalo, CESE, who delivered an inspiring opening message to the attendees. NCCA Deputy Executive Director for Operations Bernan Corpus also addressed the audience on behalf of National Committee on Art Galleries Head Maria Teresa Rayos Del Sol.

Key representatives from partner agencies played a significant role in the event, with National Museum of the Philippines Director General Jeremy Barns, Deputy Director General Jorell Legaspi, NHCP Historic Sites Development Chief Gina Batuhan, and National Committee on Museums Head Jose Bersales delivering messages that underscored their support and collaboration with the NCCA throughout the month-long celebration.

The Museums and Galleries Month 2024 featured the opening of numerous exhibits and museums nationwide, celebrating the country’s rich cultural heritage. A highlight of the closing ceremony was the launch of the second edition of the Museyo yearbook, themed “Conquering the Unknown: Museums After the COVID Lockdown.” The yearbook showcases the resilience and creativity of the museum sector in the wake of the global pandemic.

The festivities began with a grand opening ceremony at SM Lanang, Davao City, which coincided with Mindanao Art. This strategic choice aimed to challenge lingering negative perceptions about Mindanao and highlight the exceptional talent of Mindanawon artists.
