Following the declaration of Juan Senson’s ‘Baptism of Jesus’ painting as a National Cultural Treasure, a misa cantada was held at the Diocesan Shrine and Parish of St. Clement in Angono, Rizal, on December 14, 2024.

The Angono Chorale Ensemble sings the misa cantada at the church altar of the Diocesan Shrine and Parish of St. Clement in Angono, Rizal.

The misa cantada, led by the Angono Chorale Ensemble and the Angono National Symphonic Band under the direction of Giuseppe Andre V. Diestro, featured Jorge Rommel F. Bautista on the organ. The ceremony included a selection of religious hymns and the San Clemente Hymn, honoring the town’s patron saint, St. Clement.

Among the performed pieces were “Ang Puso Ko’y Nagpupuri,” “Umaawi Kang Masaya,” “Kyrie Eleison,” “Gloria Sanctus,” and “Agnus Dei,” all delivered by the Angono Chorale Ensemble as part of the sung mass.

This misa cantada also marked the beginning of the 9-day Simbang Gabi, which commenced immediately after the ceremony. The celebration of Senson’s masterpiece alongside the misa cantada underscores Angono’s deep-rooted cultural heritage in art, music, and religion.
