After a series of successful screenings in Asia, NCCA’s Sentro Rizal goes to Europe to connect Filipinos abroad to their cultural roots.

After a series of successful screenings in Asia, NCCA’s Sentro Rizal (SR) brings Jerrold Tarog’s Heneral Luna, Enzo William’s Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo and Ida del Mundo’s K’na the Dreamweaver to different SR in Europe.

A series of film screenings in different SR in Asia were spearheaded by the NCCA’s Sentro Rizal through the Sentro Rizal Film Festival (SRFF). The international screenings were conducted in different SR in Bangkok, Hong Kong, Xiamen, Jakarta and the recently inaugurated SR Seoul with the aim to connect Filipinos abroad to their cultural roots.

Films were warmly received by the Filipino communities abroad. In Jakarta, members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, local business owners, and students, both Filipino and Indonesian nationals, joined the film showcase of Heneral Luna. Filipino viewers took pride in the showcase and raised their nationalistic spirit.

In Xiamen, where Heneral Luna was also screened, Consul General Julius Caesar Flores revealed further plans to screen Filipino movies with the same theme, including Del Mundo’s K’na, as part of its diplomatic thrust.

After its stint in Asia, the travelling film fest will kick-off its European leg with SR Madrid’s screening of Heneral Luna at the Centro Cultural Eduardo Urculo Pl. De Denoso in Madrid on April 17, 2016.

SR in Berne, Switzerland follows with Heneral Luna screening at the CineMovie1, Seilerstrasseon April 23, 2016, 11:00 AM.

SR Berlin will spearhead film screenings in Germany. Del Mundo’s K’na the Dreamweaver will be shown at the Dom Forum in Cologne on April 28, 2016 followed by Tarrog’s Heneral Luna, showing on April 30 at the Filmforum, Museum Ludwig Bischofsgarstenstr. 1 also in Cologne and William’s Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo will be screened at the Rio Filpalast in Munich.
