What was it like promoting the Philippine movies in the ‘30s – ‘40s? The movie ads of DANNY DOLOR present a glimpse of the “golden years” of Philippine cinema. His vision showcases collection of works as he imparts what he has revealed during the early years.

The ‘30s – ’40s have been glorious years of Philippine Cinema. Those were the days when Philippine Cinema was simple yet thought to have been so imaginative and creative. Movies were in black and white. Be it drama, musical, adventure, romance, thriller and comedy; stories were just to the amazement of the moviegoers.

The excitement and happy days known as the “Golden Years” of Philippine Cinema presented big name stars such as: Rosa del Rosario, Carmen Rosales¸Rogelio dela Rosa, Leopoldo Salcedo, Elsa Oria, Ely Ramos, Rosario Mereno, Rudy Concepcion, Mila del Sol¸Fernando Poe, Arsenia Francisco, Corazon Noble, Norma Blancaflor, Jose Padilla, Jr., brother, Carlos Padilla, Fely Vallejo, Mary Walter, Purita Sta. Maria and child star, Tita Duran and more. Philippine cinema was identified and believed to be the national “past time” of the Filipinos.

And what was movie without a melodious background? Be it part of a complete music composition or simply a part of it, music played an important role in Philippine movies. Compositions of Constancio de Guzman, Francisco Buencamino , Miguel Velarde and Josefino Cenizal complemented the movies and brought about the thrill and delight of the moviegoers.

In 1942, the glitz and glamour of Philippine movies had been put to a stop during the Japanese invasion. “Ibong Adarna”, Mahal Pa Rin Kita”, “Ikaw Rin”, “Pagsuyo”, “Sa iyong Kandungan”, “Dating Sumpaan”, “Singsing Na Pangkasal”, “Mabangong Bulaklak”, “Paraluman”, Ang Viuda Alegre”, “Hanggang Langit”, “Minda Mora”, “Libingang Bakal”, “Magpakailan Man”, “Patawad” and many more may have been lost and forgotten.

Looking back, the Philippine movies as envisioned by DANNY DOLOR may have been greatly providential.

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Filipino Heritage Festival Inc. together with Security Bank Corporation, and A.B. Leisure and Exponent, Inc., presents the collection of Philippine movie ads by Danny Dolor  to reminisce the yesteryears for the appreciation of everyone. This event opens on May 4, – 30, 2016 at the NCCA Gallery, 633 General Luna Street, Intramuros, Manila.

To complement the exhibit, film showing of two (2) of the four (4) remaining films that survived the post war era will be shown. Film screening of Ibong Adarna, will be on May 11, 2016 at 1:00 pm and Pakiusap will be May 12, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the NCCA Auditorium.
