August is Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa and this year, Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) is spearheading the month-long celebrations with the theme Filipino: Wika ng Karunungan.
KWF, in its aim to push for the intellectualization of the Filipino language, spearheads language related and cultural activities for the month of August. Leading the said series of activities is the national congress dubbed “Pambansang Kongreso Para sa Intelektwalisasyon ng Wikang Filipino” which will happen in Baguio City from August 3 to 5, 2016.
A language is considered intellectualized if it is used as medium of instruction in all levels of education, from the basic to tertiary. From here, language is used in generating or expressing knowledge and technology in different fields like science, mathematics, engineering, philosophy, politics and others.
KWF, as the sole government agency mandated to develop and promote the Filipino language and the other indigenous languages of the Philippines, gathers language experts, teachers, writer, students and other cultural workers on Filipino language to tackle issues on the development of Filipino language and to craft concrete steps in intellectualizing the Filipino language into education, in both the technological and scientific domains.
