The Andong Festival Tourism Foundation (AFTF) and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) are bringing Korea’s Andong Masked Dance Festival to the Philippines.

Andong Masked Dance Festival is a major cultural attraction of South Korea’s Andong region, a known culture hub where UNESCO inscribed heritage site Hahoe Folk Village is located. Held annually from September 30 to October 9, the festival celebrates the South Korean traditional art of mask making and mask dancing. The fest has consistently been selected by the South Korea’s Ministry of Culture Science and Sports as the country’s best representative festival for six years in a row.

Korean mask dancers, mask makers and curators will visit the Philippines to share the rich mask tradition of South Korea through cultural performances and mask exhibition from from August 6 to 10, 2016.

AFTF opens the World Masks Exhibition at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall on August 7, 2016, 1:00 PM followed by a masked dance performance at 2:00 PM.

On the same afternoon, Concert at the Park will host another mask dance performance in Luneta’s Open Air Auditorium at 4:00 PM.

The group shall also host a mask dance workshop and performance at the Mariano Marcos High School on August 8 to be followed by a cultural tour of the Walled City of Intramuros and several museums in the metro on August 9.
