The National Commission for Culture and the Arts welcomes its new Chairman, Executive Director and Subcommission members.

National Artist Virgilio Almario was elected as new Chairman to the National Commission for Culture and the Arts last January 5 2016. Almario took his oath in front of Senator Loren Legarda and former NCCA Chairman Felipe de Leon Jr. last January 12, 2017. Chairman Almario expressed his intent to push for and work towards the establishment of the Department of Culture. He also highlighted the need to focus on the safeguarding and promotion of the intangible cultural heritage of the country. Almario will be leading NCCA’s Board of Commissioners for the term 2017 – 2019.

New committee members and Subcommission officials from the four Subcommissions – Arts, Cultural Dissemination, Cultural Heritage, Cultural Communities and Traditional Arts – serving for the term 2017 to 2019 were sworn into position last February. Committee members of the Subcommission on Cultural Dissemination (SCD) headed by Commissioner Orlando Magno took oath in a ceremony facilitated by Hon. Evelina Escudero of the First District of Sorsogon last February 8, 2017 at the Manila Pavilion.
Following the SCD oath taking, the members of the Subcommission on Cultural heritage, headed by Commissioner Harold Rentoria, OSA., took oath on February 9, 2017 in a ceremony facilitated by NCCA’s then OIC Executive Director and currently serving Deputy Executive Director Marichu G. Tellano.
February 16, 2017 saw the oath taking of two Subcommissions. Hon. Christopher de Venecia of the Fourth District of Pangasinan facilitated the oath taking of the of Subcommission on the Arts headed by Commissioner Teddy Co while NCCA Chairman and National Artist Virgilio Almario led the ceremony for the Subcommission on Cultural Communities and Traditional Arts headed by Commissioner Alphonsus Tesoro.

Most recently, NCCA welcomed its new Executive Director. Per directive of Hon. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, Executive Director Rico Pableo Jr. was sworn into office last March 1, 2017 in a ceremony facilitated by NCCA Chairman Almario. The event was followed by the official introduction of Executive Director Pableo to the members of the NCCA Secretariat.
