The 2017 National Heritage Month celebration, with the theme “Malasakit Para Sa Pamana” opens on May 3 in Ormoc City, Leyte.
Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 439 s. 2003, the month of May of every year is National Heritage Month. The event is in recognition of the need to create among the people a consciousness, respect, and love for the legacies of Filipino cultural history.
The Filipino Heritage Festival, Inc. lead by FHFI President Armita B. Rufino and Finance Officer Araceli R. Salas, offer an array of cultural activities “to bring the Filipino people to a new awareness of age-old traditions, cultural practices, song, dance and centuries-old architectural wonders.”
FHFI together with all its partners relentlessly exert all efforts to promote the awareness, interest, enthusiasm and strengthen everyone’s knowledge and information on the legacies of Filipino cultural history. Realizing the importance of the past and the present, FHFI believes in the importance to bond both through appreciation, understanding, and responsiveness in all its efforts.
The 2017 National Heritage Month celebration, with the theme “Malasakit Para Sa Pamana” (Care for Heritage) will open in Ormoc City on May 3, 2017. Youth Forums on Heritage will be held in Ormoc City, Ilagan City, Isabela, Mati City, Davao City, Virac, Catanduanes, Cagayan de Oro, and Tayabas, Quezon.
Events to watch out for are “Sanctissima”, a Marian musical by Don Bosco Tondo on May 2 and 3 at CCP’s Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (Little Theater); Pilipino Komiks featuring The Philippine Ballet Theatre at CCP’s Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (Main Theater) on May 14, “Pamana ng Filipino” concert featuring the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra and pianist, Dr. Raul Sunico to be staged at the Rizal Park Open-Air Auditorium, Pangalay ng Bayan – Celebrating Women through Dance featuring Alun Alun Dance Circle lead by Ligaya Fernando Amilbangsa, Ph D. (Ramon Magsaysay Awardee, 2015) at Robinsons Place Manila on May 9, Parian sa Binondo at the Lucky Chinatown Mall, G/F Atrium, 4:00 pm on May 20 and Traditional Biblical Santa Cruz de Mayo procession at the SM Mall of Asia grounds on May 12 and in Intramuros on May 21.
Abot-Tanaw: Tracing Local Horizons”, a photo exhibition of Philippine Sunsets with Launch of Commemorative Stamps, at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila on May 8. The exhibit will run until June 23.
Arte Filipino, Art Installations by Rachy Cuna will open on May 15 at S Maison Atrium, Conrad Hotel.
Angat Kabataan Camp 2017, a youth camp for heritage will be held in Magalang, Pampanga.
The entire month’s activities are in partnership with the National Commission for Culture and Arts. Other partners include the local governments of the cities and provinces involved ; Cultural Center of the Philippines, Department of Tourism, Intramuros Administration, PAGCOR, Philippine Postal Corporation, National Parks Development Committee, the Federation of Filipino – Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. Philippine Women’s University, FUNtastic Philippines Inc.; Malls – SM Malls, Robinsons Place Manila, Starmalls and Vista Mall Taguig, Lucky Chinatown Mall and Ayala Center; the Metropolitan Museum of Manila, Business World, DDB Cares, AB Leisure and Security Bank Corporation.
