The National Commission for Culture and the Arts participated in the 9th Global Public Diplomacy Network (GPDNet) General Assembly at the Katara Cultural Village (KataraQatar) in Doha, Qatar on May 21, 2024.
The assembly gathered representatives from various countries and discussed possible collaborations in promoting public diplomacy through multiple channels. Leading the discussions are Katara Cultural Foundation General Manager and GPDNet President Dr. Khalid Al Sulaiti and Secretary General Maryam Al Saad. Among the countries represented in the General Assembly are Bosnia, Bulgaria, Cuba, Georgia, Ghana, Kenya, Malaysia, Malta, Moldova, Mozambique, Rwanda, South Africa, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Turkiye, Ukraine, and the Philippines. Roundtable discussions on possible collaborative projects for youth diplomacy, the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the GPDNet, and the launching of a Public Diplomacy Day were on the agenda for the network’s 9th General Assembly.
The NCCA, with the assistance of the Philippine Embassy in Qatar, also provided entries for The National Dress: Source of Pride and Heritage photo exhibit showcasing the National dresses and attires of participating countries. The exhibit opened in the evening after the general assembly. Photographed were members of the Ramon Obusan Folkloric Foundation, Inc. in attires like the terno, the barong, the patadyong, and manton de Manila, featured alongside photos of other national attires of member countries.

After the exhibit, participants were treated to a dinner at the La Marsa Overwater Sea View Restaurant where engagements and network collaborations were further discussed by attending representatives.
The Philippine delegation was comprised of NCCA Commissioner Arvin Villalon and Ms. Roezielle Joy Iglesia. Officials from the Embassy of the Philippines in Doha who joined the event were led by Ambassador Lilibeth Pono, Vice Consul Monica Remsy Calangian, and Ms. Camille Christine Joy Manlapaz.
