The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) proudly presents KITA ANG TAMUNG: Ugat at Pamana, an exhibition featuring 13 Ilonngo artists, opening on Thursday, June 5, at the NCCA Gallery.

Drawing its title from the Hiligaynon phrase “Kita ang Tamung”—translated in English as “We are the Shield”—the exhibit metaphorically positions the featured artists as cultural guardians. Through diverse expressions in their works, they seek to preserve and protect the identity, history, and traditions of their hometown, Oton, Iloilo.

The exhibition reflects and resonates with Oton’s deep-rooted cultural legacy, honoring its historical journey and traditional crafts. A significant highlight of the show is the celebrated tradition of Hablon weaving, a centuries-old textile art that is deeply intertwined with the town’s identity and heritage.

Featured artists include: Marites Olivares Eusoya, Steve Magbanua, Genesis “KC” Rile, Enrico “Ric” Isiderio, Norman “Oman” Gaitana, Jessel Santerva, Florencio Abella Jr., Jeffrey “Nhene” Java Geraldo, Prhyncys Divine Abella, Joey EA, and Carmelo Getuya Camohoy III, each presenting a unique voice and perspective to this collective homage to Oton.

Curated by John Delan L. Robillos, KITA ANG TAMUNG: Ugat at Pamana is one of two exhibitions on view at the NCCA Gallery throughout the month of June. The exhibit is open to the public daily, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
