The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), through its Chairman, Prof. Felipe Mendoza de Leon, Jr., organized the launch of the commemorative stamp in honor of Carlos “Botong” Francisco, National Artist for Painting, in celebration of his 100th Birth Centennial on November 4, 2012.
Through Proclamation No. 284 signed by President Benigno S. Aquino III, the period from November 4, 2012 to November 3, 2013 was declared as the Centennial Year of Carlos “Botong” Francisco. Likewise, the House of Representatives has issued House Joint Resolution No. 26 supporting it as introduced by House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte, Jr., Congressman Neptali M. Gonzalez II, Congressman Edcel C. Lagman, Congressman Salvador H. Escudero III, and Congresswoman Ma. Jocelyn V. Bernos.
The commemorative stamp in his honor was launched on November 9, 2012 at the NCCA Leandro Locsin Auditorium, with NCCA Chair Felipe M. De Leon, Jr., Exec. Director Emelita V. Almosara, Philpost executives, National Artist’s Francisco’s relatives, Mayor Gerry V. Calderon of Angono, Rizal, his supporters and friends from Angono, Rizal.
The Program also launched the 40 painting traveling exhibit in honor of the artist and Maestro Lucio San Pedro, National Artist for Music, who celebrates his centennial birthday on February 11, 2013.
