Brief History

founded in 1958 by Fr. Rector Leo A. Cullum, S.J., Fr. Horacio Luis V. Dela Costa, S.J. and Fr. John N. Schumacher, S.J.

situated at Bellarmine Hall, then transferred to the Rizal Library in 1967 and made a section of the Library

became a distinct service unit in 1974 which focused on selecting, preserving and administering permanent University records and personal papers of administrators, faculty and alumni

relocated in May 1989 to its present site

University serial publications and        ca. 4,000 volumes

masteral/doctoral dissertations (paper)

Personal papers (papers, tapes, photos) ca. 70 linear feet

Non-textual materials (tapes, films, maps, ca. 8,000 items building plans, medals, plaques and other artifacts)

Reference and Access Services

Research, photocopy and exhibit services are provided to ADMU researchers and outsiders

Research fee for non-ADMU undergraduate student is P25.00 per visit and P50.00 per visit for graduate student

Catalogs, indexes, guides and registers are provided

University of Santo Tomas (UST) Archives

Brief History

the repository of the permanent records accumulated by the University since 1611

in March 1944, Fr. Felix Vacas, O.P. served as the Archivist of the UST Archives

since 1959, Fr. Fidel Villaroel, O.P. has taken charge of the UST Archives

Collection

Focuses on the University, Philippine/ Asian history and Christianity’s growth in the region.

Covers three main periods of the Philippine and University history

Spanish Period (1611-1898)

American Period (1898-1945)

Philippine Republic Period (1946-1998)

Reference and Access Services

Services are made available to UST faculty, staff and students as well as to outsiders. UST student is required to present his/her library card and letter from the adviser or Department Head

Research fee of P20.00 per visit is charged for researchers. Microfilm reader fee is P2.00 per hour, microfilm printer fee is P4.00 per page

University of the Philippines (UP) Archives and Records Depository

Brief History

June 7, 1974, Pres. Salvador P. Lopez issued Executive Order No. 13 designating the University Library as the University Archives and Records Depository and the University Librarian as ex- officio University Archivist.

June 9, 1974, Pres. Lopez issued Administrative Order No. 199 creating a Records Management Committee to formulate/ define programs for the disposition of official records, review the progress of the program, and plan for the transfer of all permanent records to the University Archives.

In 1982, Pres. Edgardo J. Angara issued a directive forming a photo bank as an essential supplement to a comprehensive University Archives system.

University publications 16,890 volumes

Theses and dissertations 27,107 volumes

Photographs 2,029 items

Reference and Access Services

Reference service is provided to all bonafide officers, faculty, staff and students of the University. Non-UP researcher is issued a special ID card by the Information Desk Officer

Research fee for outsiders is P20.00 per visit

Access to materials is facilitated through available finding aids, such as catalogs, guides, inventories and indexes

Restricted materials are not serviced without written consent from the donor or depositor or office that created the materials

Yolanda C. Granda has been a recipient of the Ford Foundation Training in Archives Administration & Records Management Case at Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio. She is currently a Senior Lecturer in Archives Administration, Institute of Library Science, University of the Philippines (Diliman) and heads the library of the UP College of Engineering.
