The National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Municipality of Angono will celebrate the 102nd birthday of National Artist for Music Prof. Lucio D. San Pedro on February 11, 2015.
The program, which features multi-media presentation, will be held at 4:00PM at the Lakeside Park, one of the town’s famous and most visited landmarks on the shore of Laguna de Bay.
Students, artists, musicians, poets and performers from different artist groups will showcase their talent.
San Pedro is described as the ‘creative nationalist’ in the country’s music scene. Among his famous works include ‘Sa Ugoy ng Duyan,’ ‘Sa Mahal Kong Bayan,’ ‘Lahing Kayumanggi,’ ‘Suite Pastorale,’ ‘Jubilate’ and ‘Awit sa Mahal na Poong Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno’ composed and rearranged during Quiapo’s 400th year of foundation
Mayor Gerry Calderon said the program is one way of honoring the memory and contribution of Professor San Pedro, who was once a municipal councilor in the 1950s.
“We also hope to inspire the young generation especially the youth and students to value arts and even consider it as an option in choosing their career and vocation,” Mayor Calderon said.
Mayor Calderon also thanked the NCCA for sponsoring the event, especially at this time, the nation is celebrating the National Arts Month.
Angono is known in the country as the ‘Art Capital of the Philippines’ and ‘Home of the Higantes Festival.’
“To highlight and promote our identity as haven of artists, we have initiated art and cultural activities — such as Maestro San Pedro’s birthday celebration – to demonstrate the creative genius not only of artists but common folks as well. We have also launched projects that include the town’s physical rehabilitation and improvement of parks and public spaces,” Mayor Calderon
said.
