The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the Embassy of the Philippines in Jakarta through the Sentro Rizal Jakarta and Adarna House Incorporated recently conducted story telling workshops for Indonesian and Filipino teachers from April 29 until May 5.

Some sixty (60) Indonesian teachers at the Fajar Hidaya Islamic School in Cibubur, Indonesia joined the activity.

In Jakarta, 45 Filipino teachers participated in the workshop and a joint number of 25 teachers, both Indonesian and Filipino, joined in the workshop conducted in Bali. The aim of the workshop is to develop and instill among children the habit of reading and also to introduce Filipino literature to Indonesian audience.

Adarna House, a known publishing house for children’s books in the Philippine, donated sets of books that were used in the three venues.

To date, the Filipino participants to the workshops are currently being tapped to provide story telling sessions for Filipino children and other nationalities on a regular basis. By this training sessions, SR equips Filipino teachers the necessary skills to teach Filipino literature and language to communities abroad. This is still part of the development of the Sentro Rizal modules on Philippine history, culture and arts as its main thrust is to instill Filipino pride through cultural education among Filipino immigrant children.

Aside from the conduct of training for teachers, Dyali Justo also conducted a storytelling sessions for children at the Philippine Embassy last May 5.
